How it works

The forehead is divided into 20 plots, from the brow ledge up to the summit. They are different sizes and different prices — $5 for a sliver near the ear, $50 for The Marquee, the big flat expanse in the middle. Prices reflect how much of the head you get and how squarely it faces the camera.

Your logo is drawn onto the photograph along the curve of the skull, not pasted flat on top of it, so it reads like something printed on a person. You see exactly how it will look before you pay. Checkout is handled by Dodo Payments; we never see your card.

A plot is yours until somebody pays ten percent more than you did. Then it is theirs, your logo comes off, and you get nothing back. That is the entire game. There are no refunds. If that sounds unfair, it is — that is why it is funny, and it is stated here before you spend anything.

• Whole dollars only. Taking an occupied plot costs ten percent over what its holder paid, rounded up to the next whole dollar — so a plot people keep fighting over gets expensive quickly, rather than creeping up a dollar at a time.
• Links are outbound through a counting redirect and carry rel="sponsored nofollow", because paid links should not pass ranking signals.
• Anything illegal, adult, hateful or deceptive gets removed and not refunded. Same for logos that are not yours to use.
• If two payments for the same plot settle at the same instant, the lower one is refunded. The database enforces this rather than trusting the order the webhooks arrive in.
• Every plot at its opening price adds up to $323. Nobody has bought the whole head. Yet.

MarcBid is satire about the price of attention, using a public figure's widely published press photograph.
